I should really not admit this but I rarely ever throw parties. I love being social but usually on a much more causal setting. I like to lounge in PJ’s or yoga pans just laugh, gossip, eat and {of course} drink. Sometimes I like to go fancy with my snacks and sometimes I’m happy with just a bag of chips. Don’t judge me. You know you love chips.

I was asked to work together with Godiva and throw a small get together with a few friends to sample their new decadent dark truffles. I never turn down the chance to sample chocolate. Plus my friends are all chocolate lovers too so I’m sure they would be annoyed with me if I said no.

We all loved the truffles but hands down my favorite was the 72% extra dark chocolate. I’m set on giving my whole family a flight of these truffles just so I can steal that one out of their box. That’s totally acceptable…right?

While I’m happy to simply munch on chocolate all night that wouldn’t really be fair to my guests. I made this simple appetizer by making a quick blackberry thyme jam and spooned it over soft goat cheese and toasted bread. I used pumpernickel since that is what I had sitting on my counter.

If you have never made your own jam before you will be surprised at how shockingly simple it really can be. This jam was ready in under 30 minutes and uses all natural ingredients {no added store bought pectin} and was delicious warm, room temperature or even cold. I liked serving it just a little warm spooned over the goat cheese. Now I’m sad I don’t have any leftover for breakfast.

This goat cheese and blackberry thyme jam crostini is the perfect party appetizer. The jam is homemade and cooks up in just 20 minutes! How easy is that?

Yield: 12 appetizer pieces

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

For jam

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2-3 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves removed

For crostini

  • 12 small pieces of toasted bread
  • 8 ounces soft goat cheese
  • Fresh thyme, leaves removed

Directions:

For jam
In a medium sized sauce pan add blackberries. Smash with a potato masher until they are juicy and broken up.

Add in brown sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice and thyme leaves. Cook on medium-high heat for about 15-20 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken. Cook until you reach desired consistency but know that the jam will get a little thicker as it cools and starts to set.

Take off heat, set aside and cool.

For crostini
Toast bread and spread with goat cheese.

Spoon jam on top of the goat cheese and sprinkle with a little more thyme.
