I have been on a major scary movie kick lately. Growing up I could not even hear to the music to a scary movie without freaking out. I’m talking completely and totally freaking out. I would run out of the room and upstairs to my bedroom to blast music. I’m pretty sure this annoyed the crap out of my stepmom who thoroughly enjoyed watching scary movies.

It wasn’t until I was older and finally saw Poltergeist that I finally got over my fear of scary movies. I’m not really sure why that one did the trick since it’s super creepy and seems as if I could possibly happen. Ok maybe not really happen but you know what I mean.

So at night while I’m sitting at my desk and writing my posts (like now) I’m being kept company by a random scary (and usually pretty pathetic) movie. Last night it was You’re Next and today it’s Cabin the Woods…yeah, they both suck. What happened to the good old days of scary movies? Shoot I would even happily watch It if they brought it to Netflix.

I take that back. I freaking hate clowns.

Oh and I will never watching Children of the Corn again. Why you ask? I grew up in Ohio where I was surrounded by corn fields. It only took me one time of watching that movie to realize how very creepy fields of swaying corn can actually be.

So you know what else I do while watching scary movies? Get hungry. I cannot edit pictures and talk about food without needing a snack. Ok, I’m going to call myself out. That was a horrible segue. But seriously how does one go from talking about scary movies (which I feel like I need to share with all of you) to talking about this awesome looking flatbread?

My favorite part about this flatbread is the awesome fall flavor that is packed into this baby. Hello it’s got bacon, brussels sprouts and butternut squash! It’s three B’s of deliciousness.

Bacon Brussels Sprouts Butternut Squash Flatbread

This bacon brussels sprouts butternut squash flatbread is packed full of autumnal flavor and cheesy cheddar cheese. Super simple to make and ready in just 20 minutes.

Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound whole wheat pizza dough, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 10 medium sized brussels sprouts, shaved
  • 6 slices bacon, crispy and crumbled
  • 1 cup small diced butternut squash, pre roasted or boiled
  • Fresh cracked pepper
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin seed oil (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with a silpat liner. Or if your prefer you can prepare your baking sheet as you normally would.

Divide dough in half and press dough into 2 thin flatbread pizzas.

Brush each dough with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 teaspoon garlic powder.

Top each pizza with 1/2 cup cheese, half the brussels sprouts, half the bacon and half the butternut squash. Finish by topping each pizza with remaining 1/2 cup cheese.

Add to the oven and cook for 18-20 minutes or until the top is melted and the cheese is golden brown.

Drizzle each pizza with an optional 1 teaspoon pumpkin seed oil. (This gives the pizza a nice nutty punch)

This is gorgeous. I'm loving the combination of salty bacon, sweet squash, and earthy brussels. Perfection.

This looks amazing! Do you have a recipe for the whole wheat dough? I looked and didn't see one.

Hi Malia! Sorry, no I don't. I honestly usually just pick up a fresh dough ball from my store (it's super delicious, cheap and organic!) but if you google I'm sure you can find a quality whole wheat dough recipe. I need to get working on a recipe of my own! Hope you enjoy the flatbread!

I love all of these Bs! And flatbread. I guess if you drop the flat, it's another B word. Also I hate scary movies. Hate them. I won't even go to haunted houses because I do not want to be scared out of my mind (even if it is people just jumping at you).

FALSE. The three b's are bears, beets, "battlestar galactica".

I'll have to replace the bacon with something else (brown butter maybe?) but I love the sound of at least two of those B's! A flatbread of delicious is what this is.
