Orange Hot Chocolate

This orange hot chocolate combines classic winter flavors and is easily made on the stove top or in your Vitamix. Plus it’s ready in under 10 minutes.

This orange hot chocolate is ready in less than 10 minutes and is perfect for cold winter days.

I used to have a serious distaste for all things chocolate and orange. I thought the flavor combination was weird and didn’t understand why everyone went gaga over it. Then I had a really {like really really really} good truffle from a local chocolate shop. I swear to you I about lost it after I realized how delicious it could taste.

I also blame my hate for chocolate and orange on those crappy chocolate oranges they sell at Christmas. I know I have talked about my distaste for them before and I just can’t get over their weirdness.

This orange hot chocolate is perfectly flavored and can be made in a Vitamix or on the stove top.

I don’t know why they gross me out so much considering some of the weird stuff I ate in my childhood {spam, vienna sausages, wild game meat…} but I just can’t take chocolate seriously when it comes in the shape of an orange and you have to slam it on a table in order for it to break into bite size segments.

This orange hot chocolate is perfect for cold winter nights. Easily make a batch in under 10 minutes.

Soooooo back to the hot chocolate. I made mine in the Vitamix BUT you can easily make it on the stove top too. Either way it’s delicious and ready in under 10 minutes. Plus it’s perfect topped with giant marshmallows or whipped cream. I would have probably use whipped cream if I wasn’t traipsing around outside while taking pictures. Putting a marshmallow on top is a lot easier than trying to whip cream in the frozen tundra.

This orange hot chocolate is the perfect addition to your outdoor winter activities. Deliciously flavored and ready in under 10 minutes.

I’m sure you’re also wondering why there is 5603950945 pictures in this post. Well, I had this idea to this outdoor hot chocolate photo shoot in the middle of snow storm. Luckily my husband was working from home and indulged me in my crazy idea.

This warm orange hot chocolate is perfect for snowy winter days. Plus it's ready in under 10 minutes!

Truvia asked me to spread the word about their #SweetWarmUp winter contest. Share your sledding or sledding inspired photos on the Truvia Facebook page or by using #SweetWarmUp on Instagram or Twitter. The contest runs from February 9th – 24th and fans have the chance to some fun winter inspired prizes!

Since I’m not one to sled (and it was freeeeeeeezing!) I opted to share a few pictures of myself in the snow with a giant cup of my orange hot chocolate. Which by the way would be the perfect beverage to share outside in the snow after an intense round of sledding.

Orange Hot Chocolate

This orange hot chocolate combines classic winter flavors and is easily made on the stove top or in your Vitamix. Plus it's ready in under 10 minutes.

Yield: 2 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons Truvia sweetener (more if you want it sweeter)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (orange extract can be used for even more flavor)
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows, for topping

Directions:

Add all ingredients except the whipped cream into your Vitamix blender. If you have a Vitamix Blender that has a hot soup preset option set it and forget it! (Well, don't forget it...drink it after it's done) After your hot chocolate is finished pour it into a mug, top with whipped cream or marshmallows.

If your Vitamix does not have a preset option simple blend on high until hot. This will take about 4 minutes.

* If you don't have a Vitamix (or Blendtec) you could simply add all ingredients (except marshmallows and whipped cream) to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until fully melted and combined.

I'm a sucker for that chocolate orange combination. Maybe it's from all those chocolate covered candied orange peels I've consumed over the years!
