Food Photography Class Recap Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop NYC

A couple of weekends ago you saw my little post about Gina and I teaching a class on food photography at the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop. Well, I’m here to tell you how it all went! Ok, first you should know that I was sooooooo crazy nervous. What if no one showed up? What if no one learned anything? What if the weather was horrible that day and I was forced to go to New York City in bad weather? Ok that last worry had nothing to do with the class and more to do with the fact that I hate being in NYC when it’s raining. The good news is that a TON of people showed up and the class even sold out! PLUSPLUSPLUS one of my friends showed up to the class so that just about shocked me out of my seat!

Now, I know not all of you live in NYC so it’s not as if all of you could have shown up to the class but that’s ok. I’m here to give you a little recap of what you would have learned. First, Gina and I talked about what we felt was the best things to teach to beginners about shooting food photography. The class was geared towards teaching the class with smartphones (or the Fujifilm Instax Camera) so the good news is that we didn’t have to get too technical. We also only had 1 hour to teach the class so we wanted to give some basic guidelines and then PLENTY of time to get hands on and start shooting the actual food.

Things we covered in our second half:

FOOOOOOOOOOD!

We brought TONS of fun foods to shoot and the folks who signed up for the class had a blast! We walked around helping them set up shots and answered any questions they might have had about how to make something work. They had a choice of shooting donuts, donut holes, bagels, muffins, apples, and pears. Gina and I were tagged in this shot (those are Gina’s lovely hands!) and I think it turned out awesome!

thank you @runtothekitchen and @nutmegnanny for a fantastic workshop! here is my best shot from today’s minishoot
