What Can You Use Apple Butter On?
Autumn. Apples. Football. These are three things that go together, am I right?
Well, maybe apples are not the first thing you think of when you think of football food, but let me tell you, these apple butter chicken wings are the perfect game-day snack!
Of course, the best part is Musselman’s apple butter. It’s like the best, most apple-packed spread EVER!
Growing up we ate it a lot on bread, but as an adult, I lean towards using it in a lot of savory dishes.
Some of my favorite apple butter uses are my baked apple butter ham and cheese sandwiches, apple butter bacon wrapped shrimp, chipotle apple butter carnitas, and of course, these wings!
Ingredients You’ll Need
My apple butter chicken wings are made with a spicy honey mustard sauce that makes them the best combo of sweet and tangy.
I really love the addition of spicy brown mustard but if you don’t have that on hand you can always use whole grain or even Dijon mustard.
- 24 chicken drummettes
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Minced cilantro, for topping
- Honey granules, for topping
You could also make apple butter BBQ wings by substituting BBQ sauce for honey mustard and throwing these babies on the grill!
Best Apple Butter Wings: Baked Not Fried!
I almost always bake my chicken wings in the oven or grill them. I never bother with frying because frying is just not my thing. Baking makes the wings come out super crispy, and you avoid all that fatty oil.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and bake the wings for 15 minutes. Then flip them over and bake for another 15 minutes.
For the yummy sauce, mix apple butter, honey, spicy brown mustard, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and a pinch of kosher salt.
Remove the chicken wings from the oven and baste them with the sauce during cooking. I sauced mine 2-3 times on both sides because I like them saucy.
Watch your apple butter wings while in the oven as they can burn very quickly.
Serve them with a sprinkling of cilantro and honey granules for the perfect finishing touch!
