Soooooooo I had my surgery yesterday. The good news is that it wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be and going to sleep is really not that bad. Plus the anesthesiologist gave me a lovely little tranquilizer to help settle my nerves before I got wheeled into the operating room. I should point out that anytime a doctor offers up a tranquilizer you should go ahead and say yes. It really is lovely.

I remember them putting an oxygen mask on my face and saying out loud “wow it feels really funny” and then all of a sudden I was awake in a whole different room. Afterwards I begged for water and after I assured them I was fine and was having zero stomach issues they let me start drinking water. Do you have any idea how hard it was to go that long without water?! I’m one of those freaky people who drink an obscene amount of water each day so going that long was torture.

After a few hours I was ready to leave and got to walk out of the hospital sporting a fancy front velcro post surgical bra and a prescription for pain pills – holla!

After I left I was STARVING so I made my husband take me to the diner so I could eat my weight in this salad I have an obsession with. Then I got home and crashed for 3 hours. It was a pretty lazy day and I’m 100% ok with that.

I even made myself a non-boozy version of this milkshake last night. My throat was still a little sore so a milkshake was just what the doctor ordered. The thing I love the most about this milkshake is that it’s not just vanilla but it’s vanilla bean paste AND peach. I first learned about Nielsen-Massey vanilla bean extract and paste from watching Ina Garten. She always talked about using “good vanilla” and Nielsen-Massey was the one she chose. Every since then, I have exclusively used their vanilla and I’m obsessed. I’m especially obsessed with their vanilla bean paste and you will see it in just about all my sweet treat recipes on my site. I also recently found out that Nielsen-Massey is owned by 3 generations of Nielsen’s. How cool is that? Plus all their beans are examined by hand and their products are certified gluten-free, certified Kosher, allergen-free and GMO-Free!

The other thing I love about this milkshake is that it includes fresh summer peaches PLUS bourbon because why not?

This vanilla peach bourbon milkshake reminds me a lot of my favorite childhood dessert – homemade peach ice cream. Except it’s bursting with a just a touch more vanilla bean flavor and a bit of an adult bourbon buzz. I really think it makes the perfect dessert for hot summer days. PLUS it’s an excuse to keep buying all. the. peaches.

So happy your surgery went well! I had my widsom teeth removed a few years ago. I was scared because at the time, I had never been put under. The nurse told me "don't worry, we put good drugs in the IV to make you feel good." Good drugs as in valium. Yes, I felt very good!

I think I need to celebrate the weekend with one of these vanilla peach bourbon milkshakes. What a great combo for a boozy cocktail!

So sorry to hear you had to go through surgery, but I'm glad it went well! Milkshakes always seem like the best antidote for tough/unpleasant things, and this one looks incredible! It doesn't get much better than a boozy milkshake, and peaches and bourbon are a perfect match in Southern heaven! :)

Um, your milkshake is bringing all of the boys, girls and everything in between to the yard! Thanks for the surgery update, BTW! Glad you're on the mend (and you let this shake help you along the way!)

Boozy or no, this milkshake sounds like an excellent post-op treat. I'm so glad that your surgery went off without a hitch. You were too cute instagramming along the way.

I was so glad to see your smiling face on Facebook after your surgery! And now I've decided that I need to hop on an airplane and show up on your doorstep someday, in the hopes of getting some sips of your amazing cocktails and milkshakes.
