sliced Fig Caramelized Onion Pizza.

Whether you consider right now the end of summer or the beginning of fall, I have the perfect pizza recipe that encapsulates all that flavor!

This pizza is not your average take-out delivery-style pizza.

NOPE.

This pizza is brushed with olive oil, sprinkled with garlic, and topped with mozzarella cheese, fresh figs, homemade balsamic caramelized onions, goat cheese, and fresh arugula.

It’s so flavorful that you’ll wonder why you haven’t made this sooner.

The little handful of arugula at the end brings a sense of peppery flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweet figs.

Do I have to use fresh figs on this pizza?

I want to tell you to use fresh figs.

It will make a world of difference! They are so sweet and flavorful that they will rock your fig-loving mind.

However, I realize that fresh figs may not be easy to find, depending on where you live.

I have rehydrated dried figs, chopped them up, and added them to this pizza.

It’s still delicious, but the flavors will be slightly different.

And because they have been dried, the sugar content will be very concentrated.

Can I use a different cheese instead of goat cheese?

Yes!

Crumbled blue cheese is a great substitute instead of goat cheese.

It still has the “bite” you’ll be looking for, and it perfectly complements the other flavors on the pizza.

You could also try using feta cheese.

Can I use baby spinach in place of arugula?

Of course!

It won’t give you the peppery flavor of arugula, but it’s an excellent option for your greens.

You could also use watercress, micro greens, or even cooked kale.

If you’re craving even more arugula, why not serve this pizza alongside this arugula salad?

We have a fig tree and so I'm always looking for good recipes. I've made similar fig pizza recipes before. I liked this recipe very much. I did not use the pancetta, and substituted fresh basil for the arugula since that is what I had. My family and I loved it! Thanks for sharing.

Made this in 10 minutes and it was great! Instead of pizza dough, I cut a pita bread in half with kitchen shears. Diced ham instead of pancetta. Fresh figs from the yard. If using pita bread halves, I would recommend reducing the temp to 400 and cooking no longer than 15 minutes. Simply delicious, and I will be making 4 more little pizzas today for lunch for my wife and I! :)

You list butter in the ingredients, but I don't see where it's supposed to be added in the recipe.
