Giveaway Time!

Hello blog world 🙂 I first would like to apologize for my disappearance.  Not really sure whats going on in my head. I feel so drained and blah. I’m blaming it on this dark depressing winter weather. I don’t think I could handle living in Alaska with all that missing sunlight. If you have noticed I haven’t been commenting on your blog, don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you. I will most definitely get caught up this week.

Since I do not have anything editable to post I’m going to offer you this awesome giveaway from the great people at MyBlogSpark and Fiber One. If you win this giveaway you will be given a box of Fiber One 90 calorie chewy bars, one BPA free water bottle, 1 pedometer with case, 1 reflective wrist band and a weight loss journal. This little packet will come in handy when trying to shed those few pesky holiday pounds 🙂

Now onto my review of the product. I thought the taste was good and had a decent chocolate flavor. All the fiber was helpful in keeping my hunger under control until dinner. However. There is one thing I was not so sure about it. As I read through the ingredients I saw it contained high maltose corn syrup. I had no idea what that was so I investigated a bit. Apparently it is considered less harmful then HFCS because the body is able to metabolize the maltose without straining the liver. However, it is relatively new to human consumption, so effects on the body are unclear. Also HMCS contains gluten, so those affected with celiac should steer clear. (Ehow) Whether or not it’s allegedly better, can’t companies just start using natural, not chemically produced or broken down sweeteners? I priced these bars in my grocery store and they were not any cheaper than Kashi bars which are sweetened naturally. What are your thoughts?

Although I do have certain feelings against their choice of sweeteners I’m not completely against eating them. Are they better than grabbing a snickers? Heck yeah! When your in a pinch and need something that will help your hunger as well as give you 20% of your daily value of fiber, then grab one of these bars. I’m guilty of not always being able to grab fruit or veggies (I tend to sometimes run out and forget to stop at the store) so I think these would make a great sometimes substitute (moderation people!) Enjoy!

Now onto the giveaway details. I’m going to give you a few different chances of winning.

Ahaha, I thought your problem was going to be with the chicory root fiber they add to those since some people who don’t have a lot of fiber in their diet can’t tolerate it (um, gas & diarreah anyone?). I have to be eating pretty healthy in order to include Fiber One bars in my diet, and I’m happy to say they’re a part of it right now! I’m type 1 diabetic and put them in my purse for an emergency blood sugar fix if it gets low. I really love them. My current trick for weight management (actually it’s weight loss right now) is tracking my calories and excercise on sparkpeople.com. It helps me stay on track better than I would on my own and the community keeps me inspired.

Weird, apparently the comment I left went to spam b/c it’s not showing up. My current strategy for weight management/loss is tracking my calories and excercise at sparkpeople.com. It keeps me on track better than I do on my own and the community keeps me inspired. And I love Fiber One bars, but I actually like the Fiber Plus bars even more. I eat several a week but find I do need to be eating a fiber-ful diet in order for to tolerate all the fiber in them, otherwise…things aren’t so pleasant (um, gas and diarreah anyone?). 🙂

One thing we do is try to get 4-5 fruits/veggies in before we get home from work. I buy groceries on Sundays so there’s no excuse. Every day my Hubby packs our lunches and puts in 2 apples (cut up), baby carrots, a salad, and something seasonal (right now, 2 clementines). Then when I’m at my desk and hunger hits, I have something healthy nearby.

For me I have a picture of my at the heaviest posted on my bathroom door with the words “never again” scribbled in sharpie. It’s a reminder for me to not overindulge too much.

Fitness tip: You have to set aside time for exercise. That is hard to do when you have a busy life, so I get up really early, and walk before the rest of my family gets up. Walking is free , it has been proven to be one of the best forms of exercise and I get to see the sunrise every day.

Keeping a journal of everything you eat helps. Also, drink your 8 glasses of water.

My little weight management trick is to eat a bowl of cereal for dinner if I have a big lunch. I don’t skip meals but don’t need another full one either….

I’m much more likely to get my workout in the morning than if I save it for the end of the day. It puts me in a better mood too!
