Midnight Phone Calls…

In my younger years (yeah I’m only 28, but I’m talking more 21ish here) having my phone ring at midnight would have meant very little to me. None of my friends had children and we all felt it was appropriate to call each other whenever we felt like chatting. This often meant calling late at night. Now that my friends and I are older and living “adult” lives when the phone rings at midnight I start to tense up. Who could it be? Is everything ok?  These were the thoughts racing through my head on Sunday night. I’m sitting on the couch watching Family Guy when all of a sudden the phone rings and I see it’s my dad. This is not good. He is usually sleeping by 9pm. I answer to phone to hear something I never want to hear again. My niece and nephew were in a car accident.  I hated the feeling that took over my body. I was helpless. I was in New York they were in Ohio. What could I do? Nothing. I waited to hear more. I knew my nephew was in surgery and I couldn’t sleep. I sat there. Tired. I wanted to sleep, I was physically exhausted but mentally my brain would not shut off. I just wanted to know they were safe. Finally a little after 2am I received a phone call that they were both stable.  My niece went home yesterday with a broken sacrum but my nephew is still in the hospital. He had some internal bleeding and a ruptured intestine and colon. Thank goodness they are ok. I heard my niece was upset that the hospital cut off her favorite pair of jeans and I had to laugh. I thought to myself  “sounds like a typical 16 year old.”  I’m not really sure how to end this post so I will steal the words from my brother. He wrote “My daughter had an angel clipped on her visor. Given the results of this accident I would say that the angel was working over time…Thank You”

Oh wow…I’m glad that they’re both alright. I had to chuckle a little at the jeans comment. She can get new ones. 🙂 All that matters is that they’re ok.

I know the feeling, girl. The waiting is horrible and terrifying and heartwrenching. I’m glad they’re OK. My sister-in-law gave me an angel for my visor as well and I feel safer with it there.

Brandy, I have been offline for two days. What a shock to read such news but it does sound like recovery will be on the way. I certainly hope so.

I once had an accident and they wanted to cut off my favorite jacket which cost me more than I usually spend. I told then, I had confidence they could get it off me and they did. It is not only kids.
