Slow Cooker Honey Mustard Pulled Pork

This slow cooker honey mustard pulled pork is so easy to make and the perfect weeknight supper. Great on buns, eaten plain or overtop rice.

I’m one of those people who equally uses her slow cooker in the summer and winter.

In fact, in the summer it almost makes even more sense because who wants to heat up the whole house? I personally like my house as cold as a freezer so running the oven all day is a big fat no-no for me.

That’s why when the awesome folks over at the Ohio Pork Council and the Ohio Soybean Council asked me to make a delicious slow cooker pork dish I couldn’t turn them down!

I have worked with them before and made pork tenderloin with pineapple salsa and pork tenderloin with blackberry mint sauce. Those recipes were HUGE hits and I have no doubt this one won’t be as well.

PLUS when you use your slow cooker you get to proclaim” set it and forget it!” as you slam your lid down.

Ok well maybe let’s not slam the lid down. That could cause cracking or another random slow cooker injury.

Let’s not injure our slow cookers – ok?

For this recipe, I used a 5-pound bone-in pork shoulder and it turned out to be the perfect cut of meat.

I personally like using bone-in because it keeps the meat super flavorful and the bone is really easy to remove after the meat becomes tender. PLUS I threw in a little honey mustard flavor because who doesn’t love honey mustard?

No, I’m serious.

Who doesn’t love honey mustard?

It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory and totally perfect on anything.

This dish is also perfect for crazy weeknight back-to-school dinner rushes.

Prep it before you leave, let it cook all day, shred when you get home and then devour over rice, in tacos, or on soft pillowy rolls.

You can use this pulled pork in just about any way you dream. In fact, I used the leftovers to make delicious corn tortilla tacos topped with creamy coleslaw.

Trust me – you want to make this slow cooker honey mustard pulled pork ASAP!

Oh and don’t worry if you have tons of leftovers. This pulled pork freezes beautifully!

Ingredients

  • 5 pound bone-in pork shoulder
  • 1 small onion diced
  • Kosher salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablspoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • Brown rice prepared
  • Chopped cilantro

Instructions

  • In your slow cooker add pork shoulder and onion.
  • Season pork shoulder with kosher salt and pepper. Don't be afraid to give a nice coat since this will be used to season a lot of meat.
  • In a small bowl whisk together mustard, honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and apple cider.
  • Pour over the pork and cover the slow cooker with the lid.
  • Cook on high for 4-6 hours or low for 8-10 hours.
  • Once the meat is fall-apart tender simply shred the meat in the slow cooker. Remove any large pieces of fat or bone. There should be enough sauce in the pot to coat the meat and keep it moist.
  • Serve the pulled pork over prepared rice, add a little sauce over the pork and rice and sprinkle with cilantro.
