Molasses Bacon Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 16 strips bacon divided
  • 1 small sweet onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 14.5 ounce cans navy beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons apple butter
  • 2 teaspoons country Dijon mustard

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Dice 8 strips of the bacon and add to a 12-inch high-sided skillet pan.
  • Set over medium-high heat and cook until the bacon is crisp.
  • Remove the bacon from the pan and set it on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Remove all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease from the pan.
  • Add onions to the pan and sauté until translucent and soft.
  • Add in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  • Stir in beans, molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar, bourbon, apple butter, and Dijon mustard.
  • Mix to combine and let the mixture warm through just until it starts to bubble.
  • Remove from the heat, smooth out the top, and place the remaining strips of bacon on top of the beans.
  • Bake for 45 minutes.
  • Turn the broiler on and broil the top of the beans just until the bacon is crisp.
  • Serve hot.
