For rim:
- 1 tablespoon dulce de leche
- ¾ teaspoon whole milk
- Pinch of kosher salt
For drink:
- ¼ cup dulce de leche
- 1-¼ cup whole milk divided
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 3- ounces RumChata or another horchata-flavored liqueur
- Whipped cream optional
- Sprinkle of ground cinnamon optional
- Cinnamon stick for garnish, optional
To rim the mug:
Mix together dulce de leche and milk until smooth.
Using a spoon, transfer a bit of the thinned dulce de leche onto the rim of a 15-ounce heat-proof mug. Cover the rim as much or as little as you’d like. I like to put on enough to drip down the sides of my mug.
Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the dulce de leche-covered rim.
For the Spiked Hot Dulce de Leche:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, add dulce de leche and ¼ cup whole milk. Whisk until smooth.
Add a pinch of sea salt and pour in the remaining milk. Stir to mix.
Allow the mixture to heat up, preferably somewhere between 160 degrees F and 185 degrees F. Remove from heat.
Stir in horchata liqueur and pour into the prepared mug.
Serve topped with whipped cream, and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, and garnish with a cinnamon stick, if you’d like.
