  • Ginger – Adds a touch of heat and sweetness.
  • Sriracha – A spicy addition with hints of garlic.
  • Soy Sauce – Full of umami flavor. I like to use low sodium.

How do I make air fryer beef and broccoli?

This dish is super simple to make and only needs a few simple ingredients you might have right now!

  1. First, make a simple marinade, toss the beef, and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Add broccoli, cook your beef in the air fryer, and then toss in the thickened sauce.
  3. I love to serve this over rice, but it’s great on its own, too.
  4. Serve topped with toasted sesame seeds or green onions for extra flavor.

Air Fryer FAQ

An air fryer is a tabletop convection oven.
It mimics the outcome of a deep-fat fryer but without oil. Hot hair is moved around via a fan that quickly and crisply cooks the food. The two most common air fryers you’ll see are basket-style (that is what I have) or convection/toaster oven-style. There are pluses to both, but I prefer my basket style.

I prefer the basket-style air fryer as it’s smaller and takes up less room than the toaster oven-style air fryer. My biggest tip regarding air fryers is to pick a style that will work best for your family and the amount of food you will cook. My large basket-style air fryer can cook up to 12 wings, 2-4 servings of french fries, etc., which works well for my household.

The answer to this will depend on your brand. It is ALWAYS best to double-check all brand recommendations by reading your user manual or visiting their website and seeing if they address this question on their site. My air fryer brand is basket style, and the outer and inner baskets are dishwasher safe.

Why use strip steak?

I love strip steak for many reasons, but it works well in this air fryer beef and broccoli recipe! If you have never used strip steak, here are a few reasons it works so well!

  1. Tenderness: Strip steak, also known as New York strip or sirloin steak, is relatively tender compared to other cuts. When cooked properly, it’s a well-marbled cut with just the right amount of fat, contributing to its tenderness and juiciness. This tenderness makes it a favorable choice for beef and broccoli dishes.
  2. Flavor: Strip steak has a robust beefy flavor that stands out in dishes. The meat’s natural flavor pairs well with the savory sauce typically used in beef and broccoli recipes. This allows the steak to complement the dish without being overpowered by the other ingredients.
  3. Cooking Method: Strip steak is often quick-cooked using high-heat methods like stir-frying or searing. These methods suit beef and broccoli dishes as they allow the steak to cook rapidly, retaining its tenderness and preserving its flavors while combined with the broccoli and sauce.
  4. Versatility: Strip steak adapts well to different cooking techniques and flavors. It’s easy to slice thinly, making it ideal for stir-frying with broccoli. The steak absorbs the flavors of the sauce while maintaining its own distinct taste.

When prepared properly, strip steak adds a satisfying texture, flavor, and tenderness to beef and broccoli dishes, contributing to a delicious and well-balanced meal. Its qualities make it a popular choice for this classic Chinese-inspired dish.

Storage and leftovers

You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

I typically reheat in the microwave, but you can also reheat on the stovetop.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound strip steak thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 pound raw broccoli florets
  • 1 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  • Add sliced to steak to a medium sized mixing bowl.
  • In a small bowl whisk together garlic, soy sauce, water, sesame oil, ginger, and sriracha.
  • Pour HALF of the soy sauce mixture over the steak, stir to combine, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Reserve the remaining soy sauce mixture for the sauce.
  • Once marinated, place the steak into the air fryer basket and cook at 375 degrees F. for 8 minutes.
  • Add the broccoli florests to a bowl, drizzle with olive oil and toss to combine and coat.
  • After the steak has cooked for 8 minutes, add the broccoli to the basket, and cook for another 4 minutes.
