What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is basically a tabletop convection oven.

It mimics the outcome of a deep fat fryer but without the use of oil. Hot hair is moved around via a fan that quickly and crisply cooks up the food.

The 2 most common air fryers you’ll see are basket style (that is what I have) or convection/toaster oven style. There are pluses to both but I personally prefer my basket style.

What is the best air fryer to buy?

I prefer the basket-style air fryer as it’s a bit smaller and takes up less room than the toaster oven-style air fryer.

My biggest tip when it comes to air fryers is to make sure you pick a style that will work the most for your family and the amount of food you will be cooking.

My large basket-style air fryer can cook up to 12 wings, 2-4 servings of french fries, etc. which work well for my household.

How do I make air fryer beef and broccoli?

This dish is super simple to make and only needs a few simple ingredients you might have on hand right now!

  • Thinly sliced strip steak – This meat is perfect for quick cooking but you can also use flank steak.
  • Garlic – Pungant, delicious, and full of flavor!
  • Ginger – Adds a touch of heat and sweetness.
  • Sriracha – A spicy addition with hints of garlic.
  • Soy Sauce – Full of umami flavor. I like to use low sodium.
  • Water – This helps water out the soy sauce for the marinade.
  • Sesame oil – Toasted and delicious.
  • Broccoli – A crunchy green veggie that pairs perfectly with the marinated beef.
  • Cornstarch – helps thicken the sauce.

First, you’ll make a simple marinade, toss in the beef, and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Cook your beef in the air fryer, add your broccoli and then toss in the thickened sauce.

I love to serve this over rice but it’s great on its own too.

How do I store any leftovers?

You’ll want to store any leftovers in an air-tight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days.

I typically reheat in the microwave but you can also reheat on the stovetop.

Air Fryer Beef and Broccoli

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Marinating Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1 pound strip steak, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 pound raw broccoli florets
  • 1 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Add sliced to steak to a medium sized mixing bowl.
  2. In a small bowl whisk together garlic, soy sauce, water, sesame oil, ginger, and sriracha.
  3. Pour HALF of the soy sauce mixture over the steak, stir to combine, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Reserve the remaining soy sauce mixture for the sauce.
  5. Once marinated, place the steak into the air fryer basket and cook at 375 degrees F. for 8 minutes.
  6. Add the broccoli florests to a bowl, drizzle with olive oil and toss to combine and coat.
  7. After the steak has cooked for 8 minutes, add the broccoli to the basket, and cook for another 4 minutes.
  8. In a small bowl whisk together the reserved soy sauce mixture and cornstarch.
  9. Microwave on high for 1 minute. At this point the sauce should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If too thick add a splash of water or if too thin cook for another 15-30 seconds.
  10. Remove the steak and broccoli from the air fryer, toss in the thickened sauce, and serve over rice.
