This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sunkist S’alternative for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
The other day I was flipping through the channels on the television when I stopped on Dr. Oz. He was talking about the positive health benefits of lemon. Apparently lemon can help aid in digestion, reduce stress and help lower cholesterol. Since lemon has always played a big part in my kitchen I was very excited to learn all of this. Then it got me thinking “what else can lemons be good for?”

Thats when, a few days later, I was contacted by the awesome folks at Sunkist. They want to get the word out about Sunkist S’alternative. An awesome program where they teach people how to use fresh squeezed lemons as a healthy sodium-free alternative to salt. Plus, not only can the lemons be a flavor alternative to salt, it can help increase potassium and bring big flavor to everyday recipes.
I like to think that I watch my sodium intake but with all the hidden salts found in foods I was unsure. I decided to take the Sunkist Sodium Quiz to see my sodium style.
I was happy to see I was a “sodium smarty”
However, I could still afford to use less sodium in my everyday diet. Now, a simple way I reduce sodium is by making super flavor marinades. That is why I have decided to share one of my favorite marinades. It’s a breeze to make and brings big flavor to grilled chicken, turkey, pork or even vegetables.
Super Simple Lemon Dijon Marinade:
Zest of one lemon
Juice of one lemon
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon whole grain Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/2 cup olive oil
Add all ingredients to bowl and whisk together. Add chicken, pork or vegetables and let marinade for an hour.

Yum! What a great program. Lemon pairs well with so many flavors
I think my problem with sodium is that, though I know what foods it’s found it…I love it so much that I eat them anyway! With running so much, I don’t think it really hurts me so much cause I sweat a lot of it out, but I could still afford to use more lemon in my life! This marinade sounds delicious!
I’m impressed that there’s no salt in this! Do you really not add any. ..at all? The marinade sounds super delish!
This would be awesome on the grill!
I love adding a squeeze of fresh lemon right at the table…it really enhances the flavor of so many dishes! The marinade sounds delicious!
Love the honey addition. Gives just that extra. This would be great for chicken too. I must admit I love salt though.
A great review girly girl!
Love the flavors!
I love using lemon (and limes) as salt-alternatives. Especially since I always thought I had my salt intake under control, but after keeping diaries of my food intake, the harsh reality set in. Great post
looks like a great marinade, got to give it a try
