Peanut butter and jelly chicken wings. I know, it sounds weird. Really though it’s totally delicious. It’s the perfect balance of sweet, savory and just a touch of spiciness. I first heard about these wings via Twitter but of course I cannot remember who I heard it from. This is what I get for following 1k people. However, I do owe a giant thank you to the awesome person who talked about them because I finally gave them a try and they were delicious!

If you’re one of those people who like peanut sauce with their chicken satay you will totally dig these chicken wings. As far as jelly is concerned you could use whatever your heart desires. I used some tart cherry jelly but I think apricot, grape or even raspberry would be tasty.

I ended up making these wings because I knew Memorial Day is just about here (hello summer!) and I figured you might need a few new summertime recipes. That means this week is all about grilling and outdoor eating. I will have everything from chicken wings to healthy salads to tasty cocktails.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Chicken Wings

Who said peanut butter and jelly is just for sandwiches? These peanut butter and jelly chicken wings are the perfect summertime appetizer!

Yield: 12 chicken wings

Prep Time: 10 minutes plus marinade time

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes plus marinade time

Ingredients:

  • 13 ounces tart cherry jelly
  • 1/2 cup natural creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cherry juice
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 12 chicken drumettes
  • Chopped peanuts

Directions:

In medium size mixing bowl whisk together jelly, peanut butter, vinegar, juice and sriracha.

Pour peanut butter mixture into a 1 gallon zip top bag and add in chicken wings. Securely close the bag and using your hands make sure all the chicken is coated. I just move around the chicken until it's fully covered.

Place the bag (zip side up) in a small casserole dish and let the chicken marinade overnight. (I place it in a small casserole dish just in case there is a leak in the bag. Who wants to clean up dripping chicken marinade out of the refrigerator? The casserole dish will catch it all and help keep you sane.

When you're ready to make your chicken wings preheat your grill to medium heat, add your wings and cook for about 10 minutes until the outside is crisp and the chicken is fully cooked.

Serve with a sprinkling of peanuts if desired.

    Wow — I would have never thought to do PBJ wings, but I love that you said they have a spicy kick which I could see how that would be yummy. Will have to try these!

    I love doing jam on chicken wings – it adds such a nice sweetness. I hadn’t thought of adding peanut butter as well, but that is brilliant!

    Only weird for people who don’t cook with nut butters, I say. I have a few pasta recipes where I use cashew butter (no peanut because of the kids…blah blah…) and they are fabulous. I have no doubt these wings are too!

    Whoa you’re crazy (but in a good way!) I love peanut sauce in Thai food and jelly in those cocktail meatballs everybody makes, so I think I’ll enjoy these wings very much.
