About Me

Nutmeg Nanny Photo

Hey there!

I’m Brandy and this is my little slice of the interwebs. I share everything from recipes to travel to stories about my cats.

I should note that I was a nanny (hence the name of my blog) for 10 years and have helped raise, potty train, and feed over 7 different children in my career.

I’m also happy to report that I have helped teach all of those kids how to get in the kitchen and learn to love cooking.

What can I say – I’m super pumped to share my love of food with everyone!

I have always had a serious love for food (see the above photo) and love sharing new and unique recipes for your home kitchen.

A few of my current favorites are my Homemade Starbucks Pink Drink, Easy Thai Baked Chicken Meatballs, One Pot Ground Chicken Fajita Pasta, and my Frozen Peach Cobbler!

Mull covered bridge - Fremont, Ohio

I grew up in Ohio and have a serious love for the Midwest.

I also have dreams of having my own farm.

Really I just want a huge garden and a barn full of miniature animals.

I also want a Clydesdale horse but I’m not sure the giant and miniature animals would get along. If you happen to own both let me know how they get along.

Nutmeg Nanny Hudson Valley New York wedding at Locust Grove.

I currently live in the Raleigh area of North Carolina with my husband Art and our three cats Tobias, Cashew, and Midge.

I got married in 2012 and I’m still trying to come up with reasons to wear my wedding dress again. It’s not really because I loved being dressed up in lace but because I paid a lot for a dress I have only worn once.

I’m hoping white, long, lace dresses come in style sometime soon.

I love sharing dishes that remind me of my childhood and my many travels around the world.

I look at food as a way to connect with my past and relive my memories.

I have also learned to love the art of photography. When I first started my blog back in 2009 my pictures were less than desirable {sorry early readers} but now I look at them as a way to beautifully share my work with the world.

Plus I really love the excitement of taking an amazing photograph. There is nothing better than getting hyped about your work.

When I’m not cooking, taking pictures, or developing recipes you can usually find me wasting time on Instagram, reading, pretending to be crafty, dreaming of new vacation spots, and trying to cuddle my cats.

Want to know more about me? Here are 20 fun facts!

  • I love a good rare steak (bone-in ribeye is my favorite) and never under no circumstances should steak be dipped in steak sauce or ketchup.
  • Speaking of ketchup. I only eat Heinz ketchup. I grew up in a town where they bottle the stuff so my loyalty lies deep.
  • My favorite movie of all time is Dirty Dancing but Teen Witch comes in a close second.
  • I’ve been told I have horrible taste in movies.
  • I used to hate flying but have learned to love it. I would happily travel every. single. week. if I was able to.
  • I went to a really small high school (shout out to Old Fort!) with only 51 people in my graduating class.
  • I would like to someday move to London. It’s my favorite city worldwide, and every time I visit, I feel like I’m home.
  • My husband turned me into a bourbon drinker and now I channel my inner Don Draper every time I make myself a Manhattan
  • I own WAY too many houseplants.
  • I do not dip my Oreos in milk and find the whole ritual a little gross. (Sorry milk dippers.)
  • I tell people my favorite book is The Great Gatsbybut really it’s a tie between Wings by Danielle Steele and Butterfly by Kathryn Harvey.
  • Flip-flops and hoodie weather are my favorite time of the year.
  • I’m obsessed with flossing and always carry a giant bag of flossers in my purse.
  • I don’t like wearing winter jackets and usually wear nothing more than a light jacket all winter long. When it dips below zero I might bust out my wool coat.
  • I love astrology, tarot, meditation, and any online personality test.
  • I have 3 tattoos – a cat on the back of my neck, a small tiny paper airplane near my wrist, and a butterfly around my ankle. I should note that my butterfly tattoo was my first 18-year-old adult decision. Bad decision.
  • My current re-watch shows are – Parks and Rec, Schitts Creek, Bob’s Burgers, 30 Rock, The Office, and Psych.
  • The farthest I have traveled away from home is Dubai. It was amazing!
  • The Soda Stream is my favorite kitchen gadget.

How funny that you have a cat named Nermal. My son's best friend growing up had a cat by the same name.

I love the name of your blog, because nutmeg is my fave spice. :)
