While I was shooting these pictures I was watching “My Father the Hero” on Netflix. Yeah, I know. Luckily for all of you I love making lists and I want to share a few of my thoughts that came to mind while watching this award winning (#sarcasm) movie.

  • I vividly remember wanting to look like the girl in the movie. Who I only just realized was Katherine Heigl.
  • Seriously, this chick has some sorta of mental issues if she thought it was a good idea to tell everyone her dad was really her lover. Can anyone say creepy? Since when is getting your life story lie from Jerry Springer ever a good idea?
  • How did her dad not drag her butt to a therapist right away after he found out what she did?
  • It’s creepy to me that the guy she lied too still came to the dance at the end and kissed her. He was 17 and she was 14. Isn’t that illegal? Isn’t she a complete basket case?
  • Why did I watch this movie again?
  • If they can make this movie in digital format why cannot I get Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead or Parent Trap Hawaiian Honeymoon?

I guess not having cable sorta limits my watching choices but I’m happy to know I never need to re-watch that movie again. Sigh.

However, you know what I will do again? Make this cocktail.

See what I did there? That was one smooth transition from random story to information about the thing in the pictures.

Last week I shared my recipe for homemade apple shrub which is really just a slightly sweet apple cider vinegar. I know it sounds weird to add vinegar to a cocktail but it just really works. This cocktail is simple to throw together and while it does require a few special items they are special items that are pretty easy to find.

Here is what you need:

  • Good tasting bourbon that is not too expensive. Honestly? I like Old Grand-dad for my mixed drinks. Plus if you by the 100 proof you get away with making less drinks cause it will knock you on your ass even faster.
  • Homemade apple shrub. Make it! It’s so simple.
  • Cardamom bitters. Yes, you need these. Trust me, you want them!
  • Good ginger ale. Optional but does make the drink go a little further.

Look at me with all these bullet point lists. I’m such a fan of those things.

Yield: 1 drink

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 ounce apple shrub
  • 3-4 dashes cardamom bitters
  • Ginger ale
  • 2 apple slices

Directions:

Fill a cocktail glass with ice and add in bourbon, apple shrub and bitter.

Stir gently and top with ginger ale.

Garnish with apple slices.

Note: You can leave out the ginger ale if you want a nice strong sipping drink but I really enjoy the lightness the ginger ale brings to the drink.

I rather make that cocktail than watch a movie myself! Cheers!

I don't think I've ever seen that movie and now it's good to know I never need to! I do, however, need to make this cocktail!

The girl in the movie sounds like a complete trainwreck. But this cocktail looks super delicious. Perfect for fall!

I need one of these cocktails while I watch that movie. You have me intrigued. I'm the kind of person who will watch a movie no matter how bad it is... I just can't stop. I need to know what happens. ex. sharknado, sharknado 2 <-- both hilarious, haha.
