Disclosure: This recipe is sponsored by Anolon. As always, all opinions are my own.

It wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually appreciated the whole chocolate orange combination. I think I was turned off by the flavor after my husband insisted that I try a chocolate orange. You know, those weird things you buy and then slam against the table and then they fall apart into chocolate orange segments?

So gross. I try not to gag but he seriously goes crazy for them around the holidays.

Finally, I decided to buy some quality orange flavored chocolate and realized it’s not so bad. By “not so bad” I really mean pretty freaking delicious.

PLUS good chocolate is just a general rule I live by now. No more cheap chocolate for me. Nope. It’s not good. And it’s not worth it.

Well, unless you live in the UK. They seem to have pretty good cheap chocolate. But, then again most of the things I find the UK is a million time better than in the US. I stand by that.

This pie combines super chocolaty flavor with just a hint of orangey goodness. I even added a little orange zest to the pretzel crust. It’s orange goodness all around!

Plus this pie is 100% childhood nostalgia because is there anything better than pudding pie? It reminds me of something my grandma would have made and I would have devoured! I LOVE the orange chocolate combination and that extra salty pretzel crust is gonna wow you!

Chocolate Orange Pudding Pie

This super simple chocolate orange pudding pie is a breeze to make! Crazy delicious chocolate orange pudding packed into a pretzel crust. It's the perfect sweet and salty bite!

Yield: 9 inch pie

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutesplus chilling time

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2-1/2 cups finely crushed pretzels
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2-3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange extract, (more can be used, if desired)
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 2 cup whipped cream

Directions:

For the crust:
Preheat oven to 350° F.

Using a food processor, crush your pretzels until they reach the consistency of graham cracker crumbs. Add crumbs to a medium mixing bowl.

Pour in melted butter, dark brown sugar and orange zest. Mix until completely combined.

Press into pie pan and bake for 10 minutes.

Cool until crust reaches room temperature.

For the filling:
In a medium sized saucepan set over medium-high heat, whisk together, sugar, cornstarch and cocoa powder.

Slowly whisk in milk to combine.

Continue whisking until the mixture starts to boil. As the mixture boils it will start to thicken.

Keep cooking and whisking until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon.

Once thick, remove the pudding from the stove and stir in butter, orange extract and salt.

Let thickened mixture cool slightly and then pour into the prepared pie pan. Spread out evenly and cool in the refrigerator for at least one hour, or until firm.

Top with whipped cream and a sprinkling of cocoa powder.
