Hooray for apple season!

I haven’t been apple picking yet because the local farm I LOVE charges mad money to just pick the apples.

I’m not paying $5 PER PERSON to go into an orchard, pick the apples, pay for the apples and deal with the massive amount of city people in their $400 boots picking apples and pretending to be country folk.

Can you tell I’m bitter?

I just want to pick apples in silence without paying a fee to enter the grounds. Is this too much to ask for? Probably.

So in the meantime, I just go to the farm and grab a bag of pre-picked apples and devour them in the silence of my home.

Also, these cinnamon apple streusel bars are perfect for apple season.

A cross between Dutch apple pie and a traditional bar dessert.

The crust is a combination of apple pie spice, graham cracker crumbs, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter.

It’s sturdy, and crunchy and pairs perfectly with the slightly sweetened spiced apples.

Oh and that glaze!

It’s not just your typical everyday glaze. NOPE. It’s a mix of vanilla bean paste and maple extract and it’s super good!

It was so good I wanted to drink it but resisted the urge.

I mean, I can’t just be sitting home on my couch doing shots of vanilla bean maple glaze.

I mean, I could. But I’m pretty sure my sugar numbers would skyrocket and I would go into a sugar coma.

  1. We’re apple picking this weekend so I already know this is the one of the first things I’m making with our haul! Looks fantastic!

  2. These look incredible!! I’m so happy it’s apple picking season, can’t wait to make these bars!

  3. I followed this recipe exactly and it just came out a giant crumble. There wasn’t enough liquid to make it stick together like a proper bar. Not sure what I’m going to do with a giant apple crumble–I guess serve it with vanilla ice cream.

    1. Hi Sara! I’m so sorry that happened! I find I have to really press the crust into the bottom of the pan. I usually use a measuring cup to tamp it down so it’s nice and tight. I actually made a change to the recipe directions so it’s made clear to really make the crust tight.
