Freeze ahead

You know how much I love to save time! You can make these Air Fryer buffalo chicken wontons and freeze them, so they’re ready for you whenever the craving hits.

Just prepare as directed, but stop right before you cook them in the air fryer. Instead, place them on a baking sheet in a single layer, and freeze until solid. Then place frozen wontons in a freezer-safe zip-top bag.

To cook from frozen, let them thaw the night before in the fridge, and pop them into the air fryer as usual.

Air Fryer FAQ

An air fryer is a tabletop convection oven.
It mimics the outcome of a deep-fat fryer but without oil. Hot hair is moved around via a fan that quickly and crisply cooks the food. The two most common air fryers you’ll see are basket-style (that is what I have) or convection/toaster oven-style. There are pluses to both, but I prefer my basket style.

I prefer the basket-style air fryer as it’s smaller and takes up less room than the toaster oven-style air fryer. My biggest tip regarding air fryers is to pick a style that will work best for your family and the amount of food you will cook. My large basket-style air fryer can cook up to 12 wings, 2-4 servings of french fries, etc., which works well for my household.

The answer to this will depend on your brand. It is ALWAYS best to double-check all brand recommendations by reading your user manual or visiting their website and seeing if they address this question on their site. My air fryer brand is basket style, and the outer and inner baskets are dishwasher safe.

Any leftover Air Fryer buffalo chicken wontons can be cooled, stored in an airtight container, and kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To reheat, simply place in a microwave-safe container, covered loosely with a paper towel, and heat for 2-3 minutes or until heated thoroughly.

Servings 24 wontons

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • cup buffalo sauce
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup sliced green onion
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Olive oil spray

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the shredded chicken, softened cream cheese buffalo sauce, mozzarella cheese, green onion, and garlic powder.
  • Add a heaping spoonful (about 2 teaspoons) to the center of each wonton. Brush the edges of the wonton wrapper with water and then fold them over to seal. Repeat with the remaining wontons.
  • Spray the air fryer basket generously with olive oil spray and add as many wontons as will fit– make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer.
  • Spray the top of the wontons with olive oil spray and cook at 400F for 8-10 minutes, or until the wontons are golden brown.
  • Serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese sauce.
  • These wontons are best enjoyed immediately after they are cooked as they will lose their crispness as they sit.
