Ok, I know I have made you a TON of burgers this year but bear with me because I’m back at it! This burger is made with a lot of jalapenos so it is a bit on the spicy side BUT I know all you readers are a fan of the heat. Am I right?

It’s funny, as a kid I was petrified of eating something that was spicy. My dad was a crazy spice addict who would add heat any chance he got. My stepmom would get so mad because she would turn her back and he would turn basic chili into “OMG my mouth is burning it will never not burn for the rest of my life” chili. Needless to say, I grew up in fear of taking a bite of something that was either going to be mild or WAY too hot for me to handle. Now I’m an adult and I’m all “BRING ON THE HEAT” and I try to squeeze it in anywhere I can. Thank goodness I’m married to a man who also loves the heat!

Now, this burger does pack some spice but it’s not so hot you’ll be reaching for a jug of milk. It uses seeded fresh jalapenos in the patty and then it’s topped with your desired amount of pickled jalapenos. SOOOOOO it’s really a pick your own spice adventure type of burger. I also threw in some crunchy fried onions, salsa, avocado and cilantro. BUT of course a burger wouldn’t be complete without melty goodness and that’s why these babies are loaded with Land O Lakes® Deli American – which I know you’ll LOVE! I know my husband went crazy over it because not only was the burger cheesy but I had leftover deli American so he could snack while I cooked. This man of mine is 100% down with anything that involves meat and cheese.

So, now it’s time to get into the kitchen and get to cooking OR grilling! This Baja burger needs to be made RIGHT NOW! Your whole family will go crazy over it and I assure you will be the new burger of the season.

This Baja burger is packed full of fresh summer flavor. The burger patty is studded with fresh jalapeno, lime zest and tons of spices and then it’s topped with melty cheese, salsa, pickled jalapenos, crispy fried onions, avocado and cilantro. You’re gonna love this burger!

Yield: 4 burgers

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 fresh jalapenos, seeded and minced
  • 1/2 lime, zested
  • 3 tablespoons minced cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American
  • 4 buns, toasted
  • 8 tablespoons salsa
  • Avocado, thinly sliced for topping
  • Pickled jalapenos, for topping to taste
  • Fried onions, for topping to taste
  • Cilantro, for topping

Directions:

In a bowl add ground beef, jalapenos, lime zest, minced cilantro, smoked paprika, kosher salt, garlic powder and black pepper. Mix together until combined and form into 4 equal sized hamburger patties.

Grill or cook in a pan until you reached your desired doneness, top each burger with 2 slices of cheese and quickly melt by either closing the grill or putting a lid on your pan if you cooked it on the stove.

Open your buns and add 1 tablespoons salsa to the top and bottom of each bun. Top with burger patty and desired amount of avocado slices, pickled jalapenos, fried onions and cilantro.

I tried it actually yesterday and been reading this article last week. I make sure I made a test before I commented., What I can say is I love my own recipe though it came from you. The beef is juicy...better than burger king...

I would suggest to add melted cheese on the beef to add juiciness and flavor rather than adding cheese on the bun...

We're sisters in spice :) OMG -- looks great. I always pile my burgers high with spicy toppings (especially when we're at burger joints like Elevation Burger). Love the combination of flavors and textures here ...
