Give me a burger any day of the week and I’m HAPPY! I have always had a mad love for all things beef but when you throw on all. the. toppings. and put it between a soft bun I’M SOLD! This burger is a total play on sweet and savory and a combination of this weird pineapple SPAM sandwich my husband loves. Should I even admit that my husband likes SPAM? Should I even admit that if you take SPAM and mix it with eggs and wrap it in a flour tortilla I’ll gobble it down before you have time to even make another? Should I probably just stop talking about SPAM – YES!

So while this sandwich has zero SPAM (you’re welcome) it does include the favorite ingredient of his weird canned meat sandwich special – pineapple! I grilled up the pineapple to give it a bit char and smoke and then piled it high on a cilantro scented beef patty, pepper jack cheese, smashed avocado AND then I drizzled the whole damn thing with pineapple bbq sauce. HELLO LOVER!

If you’re thinking to yourself “wow Brandy I have seen a lot of burgers from you lately” you’re correct, I have been making a lot of burgers! But, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with Girl Carnivore for Burger Month! One should never pass up the opportunity to take part in something so delicious!

I also opted to use the King’s Hawaiian buns because they are so soft and squishy! Plus I love the light sweetness they have in their buns. It’s a total match made in heaven. Oh, and I used delicious Certified Angus Beef ® brand ground beef because a burger is just not a burger without all. the. beef.

So fire up that grill and get to cooking! It’s burger time!

For burgers:

  • 1-1/2 pounds Certified Angus Beef ® brand ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 4 tablespoons pineapple bbq sauce
  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 thick sliced pineapple rings
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 4 buns
  • 2 avocados, mashed

  • 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper (more can be added if desired)

Directions:

For burgers:
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

Add ground beef to a bowl with chopped cilantro, 4 tablespoons pineapple bbq sauce, kosher salt and black pepper. Mix together and form into 4 burger patties, set aside.

Add pineapple rings to a grill and char slightly on each side. Once cooked set aside.

Add burgers to the grill and cook for about 5 minutes per side or until desired doneness is met. Top with cheese right before taking off the grill and let melt.

Add burger patties to your buns, top with smashed avocado, pineapple ring and drizzle with additional bbq sauce. You can also add on more cilantro if you're a fan.

Pay no attention to my other comment. I apparently got Confused. I blame Lester. Any burger on a King’s Hawaiian Bun with grilled pineapple is my kinda burger!
