This year I’m working on trying to get even more water into my diet. I’ve never been one who doesn’t like water but when given the option of drinking a diet soda or plain water I almost always choose the soda. And if it’s not diet soda it could be iced coffee, hot tea, kombucha, or iced tea.

So while I’m never one to bad mouth what people choose to drink I do think it’s important to get a little water in your diet.

Plus, your kidneys love it when you give them water so let’s not upset our organs.

You know?

5 Simple Ways To Drink More Water

1. Replace other drinks with water

I know, super obvious. BUT it needs to be said. On a very basic level, the best way to drink more water is to just drink more water.

However, it is important to know that your water intake can be counted from many different sources. If you drink coffee it contains water – it counts. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t drink tons of plain water. You can get a lot of water from other drinks.

2. Look at what you’re eating

Believe it or not, you can get a good amount of your daily water from your food!

  • Watermelon is 92% water
  • Lettuce is 96% water
  • Celery is 95% water
  • Tomatoes are 94% water
  • Skim milk is 92% water

3. Jazz up your water

Trying to get into the whole “drinking more water” thing? Why not make the change slowly by incorporating fruit and herbs into your water. Here are a few delicious ideas to incorporate a little more natural flavor in your water. To make these blends just add your fresh ingredients to a cup (or pitcher) and top with cold water.

  • Sliced lime and sliced fresh ginger
  • Watermelon cubes and fresh mint
  • Sliced cucumber and fresh mint
  • Halved strawberries, lemon slices, and fresh basil
  • Sliced oranges, limes, and lemons

If you’re not a fan of fresh fruits and herbs or simply don’t like stuff floating in their water there are always options to flavor your water like liquid water enhancer drops.

4. Set reasonable goals

Just like anything in life it’s important to set reasonable goals. If you’re not a fan of drinking water don’t set a goal that will result in failure. Start small and grow from there. Maybe incorporate an extra glass of water before meals, bring water to bed, or set an alarm to remind you to drink a glass of water.

5. Make it easier

Anytime you set a goal it’s important to make sure you’re making it easy to succeed.

I always make sure to have a reusable water bottle (and keep a lot more in my pantry)and just recently got myself a Primo Deluxe Top Loading Water Dispenser With Pet Station. This means I can have ice cold or hot water on demand PLUS the model I got has a little refillable bowl for pets. Yes, even household pets need extra hydration.

The thing I love most about having an in-home water dispenser is the water has gone through a multi-step purification process that removes the presence of chlorine by-products, bacteria and parasites, heavy metals and many more contaminants. AND I can easily refill my 5-gallon water bottles at my local Food Lion. You can even purchase a non-spill cap which makes transporting it easier.

You can search here to see where your local refill station is located.

Oh, and don’t worry if you pull up to your local store and see that the refill station is branded Glacier. Primo and Glacier are the same company.

There are obviously lots of options when it comes to bringing purified water in your house but the thing I love most about Primo is the refillable water bottle options. It only costs $1.75 for 5gallons and I’m not contributing to the uptick of plastic waste.

Find the Primo water dispenser that best suits your family. And don’t forget to sign up for text messaging to receive a 20% off coupon code + free shipping on your purchase.

2020 is the year we all get back to drinking more water!
