Simple Honey Mustard Glaze for Ham
You all know I’m a HUGE fan of lamb for Easter (hello sheet pan Easter dinner recipe!) but we can’t forget our ham fans!
This honey-baked spiral ham is extra tangy and zippy, with lots of flavors and just a hint of sweetness.
My recipe is made with a boneless spiral ham, but it can be used with whole hams as well. It works best for a smaller-sized ham, so be sure to double it for larger hams.
The honey mustard glaze for ham comes together quickly with a mix of brown sugar, honey, mustard, orange juice, allspice, and garlic.
Is It Hard To Make Ham?
It’s always scary the first time you cook a big hunk of meat – I GET IT!
However, heating a spiral ham is super simple and takes almost nothing more than time, an oven, a cooking dish, some foil, and of course this awesome honey mustard glaze.
Most ham readily available in the grocery store is already pre-cooked and just needs to be heated up to the degrees noted on the instructions.
However, some hams are not pre-cooked. Always check with your butcher or read the instructions with the ham.
Ingredients You’ll Need For Honey Mustard Spiral Ham
- 1 (4-pound) boneless spiral-cut ham
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar – an essential ingredient to make your honey and mustard ham perfectly sweet
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard – contains full mustard seeds and instead of being smooth and spreadable, it’s more paste-like in texture
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
If you cannot find whole-grain mustard you can easily substitute it with Dijon mustard or even spicy brown mustard. I would not use yellow mustard as it’s not the right mustard flavor for this recipe.
Spiral Ham FAQs
What is a spiral cut ham?
A cut spiral ham has been sliced around the bone in a spiral pattern. It makes for an easier time cutting since the ham has already been pre-sliced.
You can also get spiral-cut hams that contain no bones. They are sliced almost all the way through, but will still hold together for baking.
This is what I have used in this recipe and you’ll notice in the photographs how well it holds together. It slices up super easily and you need nothing more than a sharp knife to finish cutting spiral ham slices.
How do you cook a spiral ham?
Simply place the ham in a roasting dish and cover it with foil. Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes or so to let the top brown.
The cooking time for spiral ham will depend on the size of your ham. Check the label for instructions on how long to bake a spiral-cut ham and what temperature should be reached (typically 140 degrees F).
How much spiral ham per person?
You’ll need about 1/3 pound of spiral ham per person, as long as it’s boneless. If you pick a bone-in ham, get ½ pound per person because it’s heavier.
Can you freeze a spiral ham?
Absolutely! You can freeze a store-bought spiral ham before cooking and it will keep for up to 12 weeks.
Cooked ham also freezes well, whether it’s boneless or bone-in. You can freeze this cooked mustard honey glazed ham in portions and use it for leftovers or other recipes.

Honey Mustard Spiral Ham
Ingredients
- 1 4 pound boneless spiral cut ham
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
- 1 tablespoon orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 garlic clove minced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Add the boneless spiral-cut ham to an 8×8 roasting dish and top with foil.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes per pound or until the ham reaches 140 degrees F. when tested with a meat thermometer. For a 4 pound ham, this would be 40-48 minutes.
- While the ham bakes add the brown sugar, honey, mustard, orange juice, allspice, and garlic to a small bowl and whisk to combine, set aside.
- Remove the ham from the oven and remove the foil.
- Carefully pour the honey mustard mixture over the ham. I like to make sure it gets in between the slices and all over the sides and top.
- Add back to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes or until the glaze has started to brown. To speed up this process you can broil the top of the ham but it can burn quickly so please keep an eye on the ham.
- Remove the oven, let rest for a few minutes, and slice to serve.
