I’m in love…

On Friday something amazing happened. After five years of dating, Mr. Nutmeg Nanny (real name Art) asked me to be his wife. It was amazing. In fact, it’s the most amazing moment of my life.
We were on our way to dinner and we stopped at one of my favorite places ever – the Vanderbilt Mansion. He said we were early for our reservation and wanted to know if I wanted to walk around for a while. I guess I should have caught on but to be honest, I still had no idea. I usually ask to stop there almost every time we drive past so I just thought he was being sweet.
There is a bench there that has the most wonderful view overlooking a valley and the Hudson River. We sat down on the bench and started chatting. We talked about how nice it was to be outside (it was the first day of sunshine after days and days of rain) and how it was the perfect night to sit outside. Before I knew it he was down on one knee and I was freaking out. I would love to say that I was beautiful during the proposal but I highly doubt that. I slammed my eyes closed and started repeating “this is not happening” and finally he had to say to me “honey….you haven’t answered yet…” to which I replied “yes!”
I was all smiles after it happened. I couldn’t stop looking at my ring. I’m in love. It’s so pretty. He did a great job.
We then went on a calling spree to just about everyone we know. It was exciting. Getting to tell everyone we were going to get married. No one knew but my dad, of course.
After we called everyone and took a few (not so great) cell phone pictures we headed off to dinner. I celebrated by having pork belly tacos for an appetizer and duck for dinner. Art enjoyed oysters and rib-eye. The perfect “I just got engaged” dinner ![]()
