Are you craving the perfect sweet treat meets warm winter drink?

Well, look no further than this peanut butter hot chocolate!

Not only is this rich chocolatey base delicious it’s mixed with sweet peanut butter to give you the perfect balance of flavor!

I like to think of this as a melted peanut butter cup in a glass!

How perfect is that?!

I even made this right in my Vitamix for ease but you can easily make it on the stovetop too!

Looking for a more traditional hot chocolate that you can make in your high powered blender? Try my Vitamix Hot Chocolate.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate with whipped cream.

Peanut butter hot chocolate ingredients

  • Whole milk – I like to use whole milk as my base for hot chocolate because it comes out smooth and rich. Non-dairy milk can be used in its place as well as lower-fat dairy. Half and half is also delicious but a bit higher in fat.
  • Semisweet chocolate morsels – This offers the perfect balance of chocolate flavor. You can also use chopped chocolate if you have that on hand.
  • Smooth peanut butter – I’m using commercial smooth peanut butter (Jif is my favorite) but you can also use homemade or natural peanut butter if you prefer.
  • Whipped cream – I love to top my hot chocolate with whipped cream but this is optional. Marshmallows are also a great option.
  • Chocolate sauce – Optional to drizzle over the top but really helps make it look stunning.
  • Melted peanut butter – Again, optional but delicious!

Making it in the Vitamix

Do you love your high-powered blender?

Besides, loving that the power of the blender alone can heat up hot chocolate (have you tried my Vitamix Hot Chocolate yet?) it produces awesome smoothies like my Acai Bowl and super smooth soups like my Creamy Red Lentil Carrot Soup.

Since this blender works with such high speeds you cannot substitute a classic mixer for this recipe. It won’t heat the mixture as a high-powered blender will. You’ll have to use the stovetop.

Using your high powered blender will look like this –

  • Add your milk, chocolate morsels, and peanut butter to the blender.
  • Put on your lid and blend on high for 4-5 minutes until creamy and hot.
  • Top with desired toppings.

Making it on the stovetop

Wanting to make this peanut butter hot chocolate on the stovetop?

Well, you’re in luck it’s super easy and here are a few simple steps to make this happen.

  • Add whole milk, chocolate morsels, and peanut butter into a small or medium sized saucepot.
  • Set over medium heat and slowly stir until the mixture is combined and smooth.
  • Pour into 2 mugs and top with your desired toppings! My favorite are chocolate sauce, melted peanut butter and whipped cream!

  1. I’m so jealous that you met Angela Landsbury! I have the biggest girl-crush on her (yes, for some reason I crush on the ollllld ones). This hot chocolate might make me feel better. I mean chocolate and peanut butter?!?!?! omg.

  2. We got rid of our TV too. Hulu Plus is my drug of choice. 😉

So this hot chocolate is pretty brilliant, I have to say. I keep meaning to try Truvia…and this seems like a good time to start.

  3. We did the same TV switch almost two years ago and we will never go back! Now this hot chocolate I would go back for again and again!

  4. My little human would be able to live on this. He’s sitting next to me telling me to make it right now. In other news, I would love to get rid of cable…our bill is almost $300 a month now, so crazy. If I could watch 90210 reruns all day every day (and Sex and The City) I would consider saving the money and buying some shoes.

  5. I WISH we would just stop paying for cable already! I really never watch it…I’m all about Hulu and Netflix, but The.Boy NEEDS his NFL Redzone and baseball. Arrgh.

OMG. This hot chocolate. My heart just skipped a beat.

  6. I totally binge on random Netflix shows. I’m currently working my way through Friday Night Lights, and Psych is always in cue. I never liked Dylan either. The whole misunderstood-James-Dean-wannabe thing got old in a hurry. This hot chocolate? Never. Old. I could drink that every day and be happy.

  7. Once again, you reach inside my foodie dreams and make it into a reality! This looks delicious!
