Growing up my idea of dip was french onion from the dairy aisle of the grocery store.

Don’t get me wrong I still love it with a fierce passion BUT there is nothing quite like making your own dip.

I have made a version of this feta dip for years but this was the first time I threw in a little preserved lemon. If it wasn’t for the fact that I cleaned out my pantry and found the lemon jar it would still be hiding in my pantry.

If you have never had a preserved lemon before don’t be scared.

They taste like salty briny lemon.

I know it sounds weird but it’s good – trust me! Plus you can buy a jar at Trader Joe’s for like $3 so it’s a pretty cheap investment.

If you’re looking at this dip and thinking “Ummm where exactly would I serve this dip?”

Well, let me tell you a little story. I made a similar version of this dip a few years ago at Super Bowl and before I could even get my cracker-filled hand into the dip it was almost gone.

Do you know who stole all the dip? The kids. Seriously, the kids.

I thought they would think feta dip was weird but man was I wrong.

They devoured this dip like it was going to grow legs and run away.

I mean they weren’t far off because as soon as I saw they were eating all the dip I immediately snatched it away and made them eat up the salsa. I was not about to not get some of my own homemade whipped feta dip.

That’s right – I stole my own dip back.

  1. Why did I think I could live without feta cheese this week?! Sigh, should have picked up that container at Costco. This is my first recipe when I get my hands on some because it looks utterly amazing!

  2. I first tried preserved lemon at a Morroccan restaurant. I love finding new flavors! And the combination with feta and mint sounds good to me.

  3. Growing up the only time we were allowed to buy dip was for the Super Bowl and like you said it was the french onion kind from the refrigerated section at the store. I think I’m rebelling now from the lack of dip in my childhood because I pretty much want dip on everything. All I would need is a spoon and I could polish off this lemony whipped feta no problem!

  4. I love feta because of the tang and the texture of it when it crumbles. I have never thought of whipping it so change it while keeping the flavor. What a great recipe and those preserved lemons are the bomb!

  5. Dear Brandy, this dip looks like a cloud of deliciousness. I love all the flavors…this would go great with so many dishes. Pinning for later. xo, Catherine

  6. Yes to all of this. The feta, the preserved lemon, the garlic. So much YES.
I somehow ended up with three different containers of feta in my fridge (mostly because I keep forgetting I already have some and then go buy more) and a half-full jar of preserved lemons. Clearly, the universe wants me to have this dip in my life, and who am I to argue with the universe? 🙂

  7. I’m going to a dip party in a few weeks and I’m totally making this! I love feta cheese.
