Ingredients for air fryer chicken thighs

  • Chicken thighs – I used bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs for this recipe because they turn out deliciously moist and flavorful.
  • Kosher salt – You can use mroe or less depening on your tastes.
  • Black pepper – I like to use fresh cracked but whatever you have on hand will work.
  • Garlic – I freshly minced my garlic but if you’re out of fresh garlic simply use 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
  • Butter – Unsalted butter is what I use for cooking because then I can control the amount of salt in the whole recipe.
  • Italian seasoning – You can find Italian seasoning in most grocery stores. It’s a mix of dried oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram.
  • Olive oil – I like to use extra virgin olive oil.

What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is basically a tabletop convection oven.

It mimics the outcome of a deep fat fryer but without the use of oil. Hot hair is moved around via a fan that quickly and crisply cooks up the food.

The 2 most common air fryers you’ll see are basket style (that is what I have) or convection/toaster oven style.

There are pluses to both but I personally prefer my basket style.

What is the best air fryer to buy?

I prefer the basket-style air fryer as it’s a bit smaller and takes up less room than the toaster oven-style air fryer.

My biggest tip when it comes to air fryers is to make sure you pick a style that will work the most for your family and the amount of food you will be cooking.

My large basket-style air fryer can cook up to 12 wings, 2-4 servings of french fries, etc. which works well for my household.

Can I use different seasonings on these chicken thighs?

Yes, totally!

I went with a classic garlic herb seasoning BUT here are a few other delicious ideas:

  • Mexican inspired – Leave the garlic but replace the Italian seasoning with a mix of chili powder, smoked paprika, and cumin.
  • Greek inspired – Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the butter olive oil mixture and replace the Italian seasoning with straight dried oregano.
  • Asian inspired – Add a squeeze of orange juice ot the butter olive oil mixture and replace the Italian seaoning with Chinese five spice.
