Ingredients for air fryer chicken thighs
- Chicken thighs – I used bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs for this recipe because they turn out deliciously moist and flavorful.
- Kosher salt – You can use more or less, depending on your tastes.
- Black pepper – I like to use freshly cracked, but whatever you have on hand will work.
- Garlic – I freshly minced my garlic, but if you’re out of fresh garlic, simply use 1 teaspoon garlic powder.
- Butter – I use unsalted butter for cooking because then I can control the amount of salt in the whole recipe.
- Italian seasoning – Italian seasoning is available in most grocery stores. It mixes dried oregano, basil, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram.
- Olive oil – I like to use extra virgin olive oil.

Can I use different seasonings on these chicken thighs?
Yes, totally!
I went with a classic garlic herb seasoning BUT here are a few other delicious ideas:
- Mexican inspired – Leave the garlic but replace the Italian seasoning with a mix of chili powder, smoked paprika, and cumin.
- Greek inspired – Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the butter olive oil mixture and replace the Italian seasoning with straight dried oregano.
- Asian inspired – Add a squeeze of orange juice to the butter olive oil mixture and replace the Italian seaoning with Chinese five spice.

Air Fryer Chicken Thighs

Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Pat the chicken thighs dry with a paper towel and season them with salt and pepper.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the garlic, Italian seasoning, softened butter, and olive oil.
- Lift the skin off the top of the chicken thigh and stuff about 1 teaspoon of the butter mixture under the skin of each thigh. Then, use the remaining butter mixture to spread over each chicken thigh.
- Cook for 14-16 minutes, or until the chicken reaches 165 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer.
- Serve immediately, garnished with lemon and parmesan cheese, if desired.
- Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to three days.
