I’m here to introduce you to the best unofficial meal. We are big-time unofficial meal eaters in our house.

Now, if you’re thinking, “What in the heck is an unofficial meal?” I’m here to explain.

The unofficial meal is the meal you eat while you’re making the official meal. The meal where you all dig in and fight for the last chip to scoop up ALL THE DIP!

It’s an appetizer but also just a bit more than that. It’s an app that could also double as a complete light dinner.

This delicious loaded Greek hummus is the perfect addition to your unofficial meal.

It’s topped with spiced ground lamb, crunchy vegetables, feta cheese, and toasted pine nuts. A sprinkling of sumac is not required (especially if you can’t find it), but it’s highly recommended if you can!

For scooping, I like toasted Cumin Spiced Pita Chips or crunchy vegetables like cucumber.

My Pro Tips

Greek Hummus Recipe Tips

Swap out the ground lamb for ground chicken or ground beef. The flavor changes slightly, but sometimes ground lamb can be hard to find.

Add more vegetables like diced tomatoes, olives, or fermented peppers.

Don’t skip toasting the pine nuts! This helps bring out the butteriness of the nut and gives it a crunchy bite.

I like pita chips, fresh pita, or crunchy cucumbers for serving.

Sumac is a spice made from dried ground sumac berries. Its tangy, lemony flavor pairs perfectly with this dish.

Swap out plain hummus for lemon, garlic, or even spicy hummus.

  1. Lifting weights?! You go, girl!!! I always get hangry after exercising, so I’ve used that as my excuse not to do it. It only makes me eat more, so why bother, right? 😉 You can do it!!!! You are amazing!

And as for this hummus, YUM. I think the unofficial meal is my favorite.

  2. Great job on the workout girl, keep at it! I think we both clearly have an obsession with hummus and Greek food. I think we need to get together and have a Greek hummus-fest! Brilliant idea adding ground lamb in your topping!

  3. Good for you for sticking to the workout routine! And this unofficial meal is one of my favorites… a great hummus is hard to beat!

  4. Love the flavors that you used to top this hummus! I think I’d just skip dinner and make hummus the main dish!

  6. Apparently I’m already a member of the unofficial meal club – I do this ALL the time 😀 This hummus would be a perfect addition to my pre-meal snack list!

  7. Is it possible if I change ground lamb with something else and can I skip or change sumac with something else to? Thanks

    Puji.

    1. Hi Puji! Yes, you could substitute ground beef if you would like. You will lose that lamb flavor but if you’re not a fan of lamb it’s no worry. You can easily skip the sumac if you cannot find it. Hope you enjoy the recipe!
