This sweet and creamy Vitamix hot chocolate is ready in just about 5 minutes and is completely made in your Vitamix. It combines semisweet chocolate, espresso powder, vanilla extract, and just a touch of cinnamon.

During the winter I LOVE all things hot chocolate related.
And I’m talking REAL hot chocolate.
Not that powdered stuff you mix with water.
I’m not really anti packet hot chocolate but at least mix it with warmed milk and not water. Water + powdered hot chocolate = sadness. Milk + powdered hot chocolate = acceptable in a pinch.
Personally, the amount of time it would take me to warm the milk and mix the powdered cocoa I could make this easy Vitamix hot chocolate.
You guys, it’s made in the Vitamix or any other high-powered blender you have like a Blendtec.
Sadly you do need a high-powered blender as it’s strong enough to actually warm the milk and melt the chocolate.
A normal blender cannot warm the mixture like a Vitamix or Blendtec.
Craving something even more rich and creamy and packed full of chocolate flavor? Try this cozy Brazilian hot chocolate!

Using a Vitamix or Blendtec to make hot chocolate
Yes, that’s why I made this whole recipe!
I know it sounds strange but I swear it works!
And the best part is that you can mix it up to give it just the flavors you love.
Cooking hot chocolate in a Vitamix
Yes!
Basically, a Vitamix is so powerful that it uses friction heat to heat up what you’re making in the blender.
This is why it’s possible to not just make hot chocolate but also to make soup, and even lemon curd with your high-powered blender.
And you don’t even need to heat up your ingredients before you throw them into the blender container.
I added all my ingredients into the canister at cold and pantry temperatures.
It’s so amazing how it works.

Don’t own a high powered blender
If you do not have a high powdered blender do not try and make this hot chocolate in your normal blender.
It simply will not heat the way it does in the Vitamix.
But you can still use this delicious recipe!
Just take all the ingredients put them into a pot and cook over medium heat on the stove.
Using Vitamix to make hot chocolate
While you can play around with the ingredients my go-to recipe includes whole milk, semi-sweet chocolate, instant espresso powder, vanilla extract, and just a touch of cinnamon.
I think the addition of instant espresso powder really pumps up the chocolate flavor but if you’re making this close to bedtime you can always leave it out.
You can also use instant coffee if you don’t have instant espresso powder.
Substitutions and additions
You can always add different flavors to jazz up this hot chocolate recipe.
One of my favorite ways is by adding in a little orange extract, or even just a touch of peppermint extract.
You can take out the cinnamon or use pumpkin pie spice instead.
Trust me, you can make this with a bunch of different flavors and it will still turn out perfectly frothy and delicious!

omgosh that looks amazing!!!!!! congrats on the new purchase
OMG! I have a vitamix and didn’t know you could do this! This is going to be dangerous for me though…
LOVE my vitamix and didn’t know you could make hot chocolate! I just made it with 2% milk but added a little sugar-was a little bitter for me (didn’t have espresso powder). It was really good. My favorite thing to make is ice cream out of frozen strawberries or peaches (I freeze them from fresh, the already frozen ones have NO flavor), a little milk, vanilla and honey. Best ice cream ever. The tortilla soup is great too! I have my kids (6 and 8) drinking smoothies with spinach-who would have thought??!!
“Why can’t vegetables taste like hot chocolate?”…Thanks Nutmeg Nanny! I’ll be asking myself that question every meal from here to eternity! 🙂 I soooo enjoy your posts! 🙂
I had no idea!!! I have a Blendtec and absolutely adore it but I didn’t even think about making hot chocolate in it! Trying this ASAP! Side note: last time I tried to make hot chocolate on the stove top my 1 year old spilled the hot milk on his head and ended up with 2nd degree burns. This would definitely be a safer option 🙂
OMG this is genius!!!!! Just saw this through Thrifty Veggie Mama’s post. LOVE THIS!!
WHAAAA? You should NOT have showed me this! SHOULD NOT! I hear breakfast calling my name!
WOW! We tried it and this is a keeper! We plan on using this recipe a LOT this winter for our hot chocolate to drink while we’re in the hot tub outside when it’s freezing (or below).
Thanks!
I finally broke down and bought a Vitamix a few months ago. Of course, I’ve made healthy smoothies. I’ve made enchiladas sauce, using real tomatoes and love it. But, I also make kicka$$ margaritas because I use the whole fruit. Not healthy, but definitely good stuff. Love the idea of hot chocolate. Thanks for the inspiration.
I LOVE my Vitamix. A friend bought it for me. Her son lived with us for almost a whole summer and this was my reward for not killing him. LOL He was 4 at the time and I was way past that stage as my kids were 14 and 17 at the time.
I will be trying this recipe soon !
