These air fryer hot dogs are my new favorite way to make myself a delicious dog.

Yes, I know grilled hot dogs are still one of the best ways to cook up a hot dog BUT sometimes it’s too hot to grill. Or honestly sometimes I just don’t want to go out and heat up the grill.

AND since I got my air fryer I’m pretty on board with cooking all. the. things. in the air fryer.

I also make sure to add my cooked hot dogs back into the bun and toast it all for a few minutes so my bun gets just slightly crisp.

My personal favorite hot dog buns are brioche buns but honestly any bun you use will toast up nicely.

How to cook hot dogs in the air fryer?

Looking for the easiest way to cook up a hot dog?

Look no further than these air fryer hot dogs! They cook up crispy and delicious every. single. time.

First, preheat your air fryer at 400 degrees F. My air fryer has a preheat button that sets the machine for 400 degrees F and preheats for 5 minutes.

After the air fryer has been preheated add in your hot dogs and cook for 4 minutes at 400 degrees F. If you do not plan on putting your hot dog on a bun you can cook it a few minutes longer depending on how crispy you like your hot dogs.

After I take my hot dogs out of the air fryer I add it to my bun and toast it for another minute in the air fryer.

What type of hot dog is best?

There are lots of different types of hot dogs on the market but my personal favorite are all beef hotdogs.

I especially love hot dogs that come in casings so they snap.

However, chicken, turkey, pork and even vegan hot dogs will work perfectly in this recipe.

What is the best hot dog bun?

This is a personal preference but I really enjoy brioche buns. They are buttery, toast up wonderfully, and have such a delicious temperature.

Other options are of course whole wheat, white, split top, or the traditional side cut.

What other ways can I cook hot dogs?

If you don’t have an air fryer you can always cook your hot dogs by boiling them in water, cooking in a skillet, or putting them on the grill.

What should I put on top of my hot dogs?

Hot dog toppings are a very personal choice but my favorite is yellow mustard and ketchup.

Some other great topping ideas are:

  • pickle relish
  • spicy brown mustard
  • sauerkraut
  • chili
  • cheese
  • jalapeños
