Ingredients for Thanksgiving sangria
- Fruit – I’ve chosen a blend of apples, oranges, and pomegranate seeds. This is the perfect autumn trio!
- Superfine sugar – Superfine sugar is granulated white sugar, but more finely ground. This is important to use here so that it will properly dissolve in the sangria. It is NOT powdered sugar.
- Red wine – Look for a blend that is slightly sweet, but not cloying.
- Triple sec – This orange-flavored liqueur helps bring out the flavors of the fruit and the wine.
- Brandy – Brandy is a sweet, dry liquor made from distilled wine.
- Champagne – Look for a sweeter variety. This adds effervescence and sweetness to the sangria.
Make ahead
Sangrias are arguably even tastier when they’ve been made ahead of time, that way the fruit has a chance to mingle with the alcohol and soak up all the goodness.
You can prepare this sangria the day before so it’s ready to go when you are!
Just stir together all of the fruit, sugar, Brandy, triple sec, and wine (leaving out the champagne, you’ll add that just before serving to maintain the carbonation) and put it into a large pitcher with a fitted lid in your fridge.
Make it a virgin sangria!
If you can’t have alcohol, you can still have a delicious Thanksgiving sangria!
How?
Simply swap out the wine and champagne, for carbonated apple juice.
It’s sold in most major grocery stores in the bottled juice aisle.
And omit the superfine sugar, Brandy, and the triple sec, and replace it with cranberry juice and orange zest.
Everyone deserves to have a tasty beverage at Thanksgiving!
Storage and leftovers
Lastly, you can store any leftover sangria in the refrigerator for up to 1 extra day.
The fruit will ultimately start to break down and it won’t be as fresh and delicious much more after that.
