Ingredients for harissa whipped feta

  • Block feta cheese – Feta cheese is salty and savory and perfect for this dip.
  • Greek yogurt – Greek yogurt will add creaminess and tanginess to the whipped feta.
  • Olive oil – Olive oil will help the whipped feta reach the perfect smooth consistency.
  • Lemon juice and zest – Fresh is best! Lemon will add a burst of fresh citrus.
  • Grated garlic – Garlic is a classic ingredient that will add earthiness.
  • Harissa paste – Harissa will add a smoky and spicy kick to the whipped feta.

What is Harissa?

Harissa is a hot chili pepper paste used in Middle Eastern cooking, usually consisting of roasted red peppers, spices, and herbs.

It has a beautifully smoky, spicy, and earthy taste. The level of spice can vary depending on the brand, so be sure to read the label before purchasing.

You can find harissa paste in the international foods aisle at most major grocery stores.

What is Greek yogurt?

Greek yogurt is perfect for this harissa whipped feta because it doesn’t add any unnecessary moisture, so it doesn’t water down the spread.

Greek yogurt is simply yogurt that has been strained to remove the whey, which is what makes it so thick and delicious!

You can find Greek yogurt in the grocery store right next to the regular yogurt.

How to use Harissa whipped feta

Harissa whipped feta is so versatile, it can be used in a variety of ways! Here are some of my favorites:

  • Slathered in sandwiches, or on top of burgers
  • As an appetizer dip for veggies (like carrot sticks, bell peppers, and celery,) or pita chips
  • Served alongside some Honey Spiced Glazed Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 8 ounce block feta cheese
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 lemon, zested
  • 3 tablespoons harissa paste

Instructions

  • Break the feta into small cubes and place them in the food processor with the Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Process on high speed until the feta is smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  • Next add the garlic, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Pulse to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the harissa paste and the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • There are two great ways to serve this dip – either add the harissa to the feta dip and pulse to combine or transfer the feta dip to a serving bowl and drizzle with the harissa oil. Up to you!
  • Enjoy immediately and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
